5 Albums to Listen to During Quarantine
1. Daft Punk - Random Access Memories (2013)
During these times of uncertainty, this album provides listeners with a futuristic alternate reality. This album is more than just simply good electronic music. It is truly an experience and feels like something that came straight from 2030. For those who do not care for lyrics and often listen to music in the background, this album is also perfect due to its biggest strength being its sound while the lyrics tend to be purely for sonic purposes.
2. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998)
This album is one of my personal favorite concept albums ever. It has gained a fairly big cult following in certain corners of the internet and the attention is certainly warranted. The album explores themes of love, loss, melancholy, and more. The reason I believe it to be especially good during quarantine however is the nasally voice of Jeff Mangum which is one of the most calming in music.
3. Roy Blair - Cat Heaven (2017)
Quarantine is the perfect time to discover some new music. Roy Blair's Cat Heaven seriously flew under the radar when it was released in 2017. While some singles have become popular in corners of the internet, the album hasn't gotten nearly the sort of praise and attention it deserves. The album takes inspiration from many genres such as rock, rap, and R&B. They all mix very well together to form one cohesive coming of age album.
4. Childish Gambino - Camp (2011)
When people think of Childish Gambino they think of Because the Internet or "Awaken, My Love!" but possibly the best and certainly the most raw Gambino album is in the form of his 2011 debut, Camp. This album is especially good during quarantine when you're just feeling yourself especially in songs like Bonfire and the album also takes darker, sadder turns with the song Heartbeat. But overall, this album is a perfect example of what a now superstar artist sounds like when they're hungry on their first album/mixtape.
5. Kid Quill - The Name Above the Title (2016)
This album flew under most people's radars and is the best example of what to listen to during quarantine. This album makes you want to leave your house and make as much out of life as possible by reminding you of the good old days and making you feel nostalgic. This being a rap album, the lyrics will be very important to listen to but it also has elements of pop and other styles of music.
